When can I start classes?
Our current program is design to quickly get you started with some dance moves and so the Level 1 classes are always suitable for beginners and so you should not hesitate to contact us as soon as you can. And take advantage of our introductory offers.
How fit do I need to be?
This depends upon how adventurous and dynamic you want to be in your dancing. Swing dancing is a fun way to exercise, great for developing your balance, posture and agility. Everybody dances according to their own energy level and for those who chose to reach towards achieving an advanced level it does become gradually more physically demanding. That said, anyone with reasonable mobility can have fun with swing dancing.
What if I can't come every week?
Not to worry. We structure our teaching on the assumption that life can get in the way of dancing. We do not teach choreography as on Strictly Come Dancing because social swing is danced free-style. For beginners there is plenty of revision and anything essential that you miss will be covered soon after your return.
What do I need to wear?
The most important thing to wear is a smile - it will make your dance partner very happy. Next you need comfortable shoes that allow you to turn easily on the ball of your foot: they should be secure and flexible with a smooth sole. Clothing layers are a good idea so that you can adjust to suit the weather and the energy that you are burning. If you are exerting yourself during warm weather then a small sports towel can help you to stay fresh. If you want to dress in style that will be great - just be sure that it won't stop you from getting the most out of your class.
Do I need to come with a dance partner?
It's great if you have someone to come dancing with you in the class but it is absolutely NOT A REQUIREMENT, although we do aim to keep a good gender balance between 'leaders' and 'followers'.
